Since the incorporation of the MRC in 2010, the warden has always been designated from among the mayors of the municipalities in our region.
But no more…
Following the adoption of By-law 18-AR982-2025 decreeing the election of the Warden by universal suffrage, all eligible voters in the MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent will have the opportunity for the very first time to vote for our next Warden.
The period for filing a nomination paper : September 19 to October 03, 2025
Advanced polling : October 26, 2025
Polling day : November 2nd, 2025
IMPORTANT: The election of the MRC Warden will take place at the same time and in the same location as the election of the mayor and municipal councilors. For the municipality of Côte-Nord-du-Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent, the only municipal election is that of the MRC Warden.
A Warden elected by universal suffrage is chosen by the entire population, or more precisely by all eligible voters in the MRC.
Warden’s Remuneration
In accordance with By-law 19-AR982-2025 concerning the remuneration of the Warden elected by universal suffrage and the members of the MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent Council, the Warden’s base annual remuneration is set at $40,578 for the year 2025.
In addition to this amount, an expense allowance is automatically granted, representing half of the elected official’s basic remuneration, in accordance with section 19 of the Act respecting the remuneration of municipal elected officials.
This expense allowance is therefore $20,289.00 (non-taxable) and added to the base salary of the warden.
$ 40 578 + $ 20 289 = $ 60 867 total annual remuneration for the warden.
