SUMMARY OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE MRC COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 15th, 2021

Every month, the MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent shares a summary of the main decisions taken in economic development at the regular meeting of the MRC Council.

Technical equipment upgrades of the Services préhospitaliers de la Basse-Côte-Nord organization

The Council of the MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent accepted a request for financial support of 3974.64 $ from the Services préhospitaliers de la Basse-Côte-Nord organization to purchase computer equipment. The financial support will help the organization acquire computers and printers for their staff members, allowing them to work more efficiently and meet administrative and human resources needs. The total cost of the project is 4447.31 $ and the financial assistance granted by the MRC comes from the Rural Development Fund.

Renovation of St-Philip Church in Kegaska

The Council of the MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent accepted a request for financial support of the amount of 25 000 $ from the Local Committee of Kegaska to contribute to the renovations of the St-Philip Church. The financial assistance will help preserve and improve the religious building, which has become an important tourist attraction for the community of Kegaska. The total cost of the project is 37 742.99 $ and the financial assistance granted by the MRC comes from the Rural Development Fund.

Purchase of equipment for the Blanc-Sablon Community Gym

The Council of the MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent accepted a request for financial support from the municipality of Blanc-Sablon to contribute to the purchase of workout equipment for the citizens of the community. The MRC Council granted 25 000 $ in financial assistance from the Rural Development Fund and 10 000 $ in financial assistance from the Healthy Community Development Support Fund. The financial assistance granted by the MRC will help to equip the Blanc-Sablon Community Gym with fitness equipment and thus promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The total cost of the project is 44 976.36 $.

Construction of a gazebo at the Maison d’accueil Richelieu

The Council of the MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent accepted a request for financial support of 10 000 $ from the Maison d’accueil Richelieu for the construction of an outdoor gazebo. The financial assistance will allow people waiting for an appointment at the Sept-Îles Hospital to benefit from the outdoor facility. The total cost of the project is 20 960 $ and the financial assistance from the MRC comes from the Healthy Community Development Support Fund.

Purchase and improvement of fishing business equipment

The MRC Council accepted a request for financial support of 17 604.97 $ from Dwayne Anderson (fishing enterprise) to purchase a boat, motor and other equipment for lobster fishing. The total cost of the project is 35 209.95 $ and contributes to the maintenance of one job.
The MRC Council also accepted a request for financial assistance of 16 660 $ from Gilbert Monger (fishing enterprise) to purchase a boat, an outboard motor, a trailer, a GPS and other equipment needed to operate the boat. The total cost of the project is 33 320 $ and will help maintain two jobs.
A request for financial assistance of 35 000 $ from Glen Ransom (Fishing enterprise) was also accepted by the MRC Council. The project, at a total cost of 102 642.21 $, will contribute to the maintenance of five jobs and consists to the acquisition and installation of an extension on a fishing vessel.

Market Development Top Shelf Prints

The MRC Council accepted a request for financial support from Tyler Buckle (Top Shelf Prints) to allow the company to partner with Gener8 Advisors, a sports licensing and consulting agency. The MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent accepted to provide a financial assistance of 14 395 $ from the Structural Projects Support Policy and 9000 $ from the Business Support Policy. The project will allow the company to secure partners for a customized market such as sports teams, sports photographers or minor sports organizations. The total cost of the project is 46 790 $ and will help maintain one job.

Acquisition of a backup system by the Lower North Shore Community Seafood Cooperative

The Council of the MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent accepted a request for financial support from the Lower North Shore Community Seafood Cooperative to contribute to the purchase of an emergency system. The MRC of Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent granted financial assistance of 35 000 $ from the Structural Projects Support Policy and 10 000 $ from the Social Economy Entreprise Development Fund. The project involves the purchase of a generator and the equipment needed to install it. The total cost of the project is 91 568 $ and will help maintain fifty jobs.
